Re: Thoughts on Mojo

The headers are already pretty crowded - if you start interspersing ground signals then it will get even more crowded. In general, I just don't like the use of 0.1" headers. Yes, I realize they are super easy to prototype with, but with so many pins it's very hard to connect/disconnect a shield with...

Re: VGA driver for arduinos

During the kickstarter campaign, I recall there was some discussion about a possible add-on board for the Mojo with expansion memory. We ended up getting the LED shield instead. Perhaps that concept is still on the table as a followup product? Memory and some I/O connectors (VGA / HDMI / Ethernet / ...

Re: VGA driver for arduinos

VGA is a (relatively) simple serial protocol. My understanding is that it is encoded into scanlines of RGA data with a fourth control signal - with the bitrate and start/stop sequences determining the resolution and frame rate. Depending upon what you are doing, you don't always need a frame buffer ...

Re: Current driving/sinking limits

I have not built that particular board out yet - I've been wrapping up a few other unfinished projects first before starting yet another one :) But generally speaking, I've been careful to keep current sourcing/sinking to around 12 mA per pin when I can - since this is the default expectations of th...

Re: Mojo Loader Failing to Connect

That got me a few times too when going through the tutorials :) Often, every word counts. It pays to read them very carefully while learning. I also found it very beneficial to write testbenches for each new module I added while going through the tutorials, to drive the inputs and watch the output w...

Re: PWM tutorial is correct?

The text is backwards. It should read "If we output a 1 whenever the value of the counter is less than Compare and a 0 otherwise you can see we create a pulse-train with a 33% duty cycle!"

Re: Module for Clock Generation

I was curious so I dug around a little bit, and it seems like this is actually not very difficult at all (and doesn't burn up all those LU's). In ISE, under the Tools menu, run the Core Generator tool. Create a new Core Generator project (first toolbar button). In the project options, be sure to set...

Re: Mojo Loader Failing to Connect

You don't happen to have a really old version of Java installed (or have Java blocked) do you? I think the loader is a Java app. It's a pretty simple app, so doubtful that you might be using it wrong. I don't think source code for the loader has been released, so debugging it to see what it is hangi...

Re: Module for Clock Generation

eevblog forums has a LOT of traffic and it is mostly (guessing 90%+) very experienced professional engineers. They have a subforum area for microcontrollers and FPGA's that sees quite a bit of activity, and are usually very quick (and thorough) when answering questions. http://www.eevblog.com/forum/...

Re: Mojo Loader Failing to Connect

Do you happen to have any other devices that use COM ports? Also, is your USB cable plugged into a hub or directly into a port on your computer? Does the Mojo appear properly in Device Manager once you plug it into a USB port? When you say "It loads the FPGA with the wave program" do you mean that w...
